New Tampa Unplugged: Stewart Tussing Band

New Tampa Unplugged is a spin on the hit show, MTV Unplugged, which aired in the 1990s and early 2000s and featured popular artists of the time performing acoustic sets. The New Tampa Unplugged series presents acoustic performances from notable Tampa Bay musicians in a unique, intimate way with candlelit cabaret seating. Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for purchase.

The three veteran Nashville musicians who make up The Stewart Tussing Band, Gary Tussing, Tom Nordin and Kevin Stewart, met and were all originally from the Tampa Bay area. They performed together in clubs, colleges and concerts throughout the country during the eighties and after going their separate ways each independently wound up in Nashville. They became session players and/or music writers and performed and worked with a litany of artists in and out of Nashville. Reconnecting with each other, they also created various incarnations of the Stewart Tussing Band featuring Stewart’s original music and performing dates as schedules allowed.

Cellist Gary Tussing has performed with the likes of Led Zeppelin’s Unleaded tour (with Page and Plant), Dolly Parton, The Dillards and even Isaac Hayes. On drums and keyboard is Tom Nordin who, throughout his decades in Nashville, worked recording sessions and road engagements with nearly every type of musical act. He was featured as drummer on the outstanding “David and Goliath” progressive rock album that was a solo work of violinist David Ragsdale of the rock band Kansas. Kevin Stewart is a writer and vocalist who is the eclectic engine of the band. In the Stewart Tussing Band, Stewart also plays guitars and holds down the low end with Moog bass pedals.

Together the Stewart Tussing band is a lush, full combination of melody, harmony and percussive rhythm that is greater than the sum of its obvious components.
